Question: If you have student loans before converting to islam, what do you do?

I have two types of student loans. The bigger portion I don't owe interest on. However I have a smaller loan that I do owe interest on. I don't have the money to pay off the loan so what should I do? And are my subsidized loans haram? For those of you telling me to get a job I live in a state with one of the highest unemployment rates in the country and I'm a full time student. No one is going to hire me when there are non- hjiabis with work experience to hire.

I don't know if they are haram... but if you troll threw some government aid sites, i'm sure you could find some grants you are applicable for to pay them off outright....

You pay them off. Since you made the loans BEFORE converting to Islam, you made the loans WITHOUT God's guidance. This is therefore a matter between you and your debtor, NOT between you, the debtor, and God. In this matter, you are STILL bound by MAN'S law, and since these loans were made without the presence of God, God isn;t going to help you out of it, either. SO either pay up, or be prepared to pay the consequences according to Man's Law.

U are concerned with paying interest or the fact that u can't pay the whole loan If you want to stay away from paying interest then there could not be any help in this case. You have to pay the whole interest with a good heart and obviously God will forgive you. Even our dearest prophet had to one day pay the loan with a interest from a Jew with the greatest of hestitation. and it is not permissable to use subsidized loans UNLESS you have no other choice

Interest = Riba which is Haram and whosoever is involved in Riba (Prophet Muhammad said) he challenges to wage a war against Allah and his Prophet. If your converts to Islam so your all bad deeds turn into good deeds but if you owe somebodys money, you still gotta pay it till death.
