Question: Why isn't there more help paying off student loans?
(Posted by: fonzmeza on 2008-05-14 07:48:48)
I think a site should be created where people all over the country could read about a student- life, degree, current job status, contact info- and be able to donate to help pay off verified student loans. So many students, like myself, grew up with nothing. We worked full time to pay the bills and took loans out for school. After graduating, we're still in debt and strapped for cash because of entry level salaries. It makes all the hard work seem worthless- especially since some non- degree jobs start at so much more. Any thoughts or ideas? |

I found a site, listed below about paying off student loans. But didn't find anything where others donate to help you pay off yours. I don't know who would donate, because so many would lie to make their situation should so deserving and just get out of the debt. So many not paying student loans is a HUGE problem. They need to be paid so the future students will have funds available to borrow to continue their education. Get a part time job and put all of that on your loan. That will pay it off sooner. Maybe there should be a site where people can donate to help pay for college and then the student wouldn't have to take out a loan in the first place. If you come across either, please let me know. I've got 2 kids that could use the help. |

I also worked full-time to pay bills and took out loans for school. However, I think it is very selfish to expect others to help re-pay the loans. You took them out for your education, you should pay them back. You can defer your payments if you are strapped right now. And even if you don't defer, the monthly payments are very minimal. And even still, if the monthly payments are too much, they will work with you on reducing them. Bottom line, take responsibility. It's your education. |
