Or do you know a senior who still owes on their student loans? I understand some people will be paying until they are 200 peapie, the government allows collectors to collect from people on SS, SS disability and SSI now. |

No, I can't imagine someone owing on a student loan at retirement age as the federal loans were only for 10= 15 years. And yes you could get forbearance but they would make sure to get it from you before you retire or take your boat, house or car. Actually I borrowed 17,000. and when I became disabled I called them and told them I could no longer pay the same payment and since I had already paid 25,000 dollars with interest, they forgave the 9,000 I still owed.So many people just let those loans go for so loang that the govt. came in and started taking boats, houses etc. to stop it and it worked. As long as they make some interest I think they were satisfied. Mine was so high because I had to take two forebarances and each one cost 5,000. |

As I returned to school, after my kids were grown (90's), I paid off my loans just before reaching the ranks of Sr Citizen , , , |

I know someone who is in their 50's and just gonna get garnishment from their paycheck to pay for about $20,000 + in student loans. This person doesn't own a thing, but retirement money (which isn't half of what is owed) and an old car. |

I am one of the lucky ones. My sweet daddy paid every penny of my college education and it has served me well all these years. |

If you did not pay your student loan, they took your income tax refund to pay it off.. |
