Trying to find a reasonably priced cell phone for my 86 year old mother and seeking info from those with similar experience.

Cheap radio shack ones, pay as you go. Free phone and 25 cents a minute.

AARP advertises a very simple phone not sure what the deal is all about but the big thing is its simple to operate and doesn't have all the bells and whistles on it which make them a night mare for some of us older folk.

Have you looked into the jitter bug? they have 10 cents a minute and limited call as a lifeline. I think some regular companies are having great deals and I always ask for the simple phone. unlimited, anywhere in the USA and voice mail which is all I'm interested in.

Another vote for Jitterbug. However I would shop Radio Shack and Best Buy to see which phones have the best features.Target also has an excellent selection.

In the AARP magazine they advertise the Jitterbug which has big numbers and very little in the way of bells and whistles. I like my little pay as you go Tracfone which is about $10. and you buy time on it. You can also purchase a double minute card so that any future cards you buy will give you double minutes. I think it's a good deal.

My mother never wants to use it. make sure it has a very loud ring and the volume is very loud. mother cant hear shit which is good for playing loud music but she cant understand the person talking on the phone. is there a cell for the hard of hearing?

I just gave my 81 yr old father a Tracfone today. $20 for the phone; $10/ mo for 100 mins/ month.

Interested in all the answers and appreciate your Q because I am looking to downgrade to a more basic cell myself. And to answer the query about volume, there are volume controls in most cells.

Tracfone from Walmart is about as simple as you can go. Pay as you go. You might have to put the minutes in or they will do that at the store. They only disadvantage is that the buttons are small and some seniors might have trouble dialing.

I have found that using someone else's cell phone is the cheapest way to go.

I'm still using my 4 year blackjack, but get this i have to pay 10 more a month because at &t say its outdated...if they made a flip top with the qwerty keyboard i would have one..i hate t9..i bought full data pkg i was led to believe i could watch full length features but apparently thats just for pcs..so i'm fixing to cancel that...3 min. videos aren't worth an extra 120 per year..if she is elderly check out the aarp phone..
